Mindful Movements in Nature, Honoring Black History

Embrace nature within oasis of The New York Botanical Garden as we commemorate Black History Month. Join Robin Rollan, founder of Blackyogis, for a 30-minute meditative walk, echoing the wisdom of the great botanist George Washington Carver: “I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in.” This experience will focus on mindful movements and breathwork that mimic the rhythm of the natural world.

About Robin Rollan

Robin Rollan is a dedicated yoga and mindfulness practitioner with over a decade of experience, exploring various styles such as Hatha, Vinyasa flow, traditional Hot Yoga (formerly Bikram Yoga), Ashtanga, and Kemetic Yoga™. Motivated by a desire to serve her community, Robin embarked on a teaching journey during the Covid shutdown, bringing yoga to various community spaces, and developing programs tailored to urban community spaces.

Robin’s practice is deeply rooted in cultivating inclusive and community-oriented environments, particularly in underserved communities. Recognizing the under-representation of Black people and people of color in mainstream depictions of yoga and mindfulness, she created the Blackyogis Tumblr blog to amplify the presence of yoga practitioners from diverse backgrounds and celebrate the various ways these practices manifest. Dedicated to ensuring yoga and mindfulness practices are accessible to all, Robin strives to enrich the lives of individuals and communities through these transformative practices.
